Krispy Kreme bacon cheddar cheeseburgers

This was lunch at Google NYC’s cafeteria to celebrate the birthday of the head of the cafe staff…

I had one.

It was excellent.

Oh. My. God.

iPhone Code Signing

Codesign error: no certificate for identifier “iPhone Developer” was found in your keychain

Getting this error when building an iPhone app? Yeah … you’re going to love the solution:

After much tinkering around, I tracked the problem to a keychain error.

And TADAAAAA: Go to Keychain Access -> Preferences -> Certificates and deactivate both automatic checking gizmos.

Quit Xcode, relaunch. It worked for me. Instantly.

iPhone Disabled

Oh God, I hate this thing. I hate it. I hate it. I hate it.

Here’s the current method for adding an application to the iPhone:

  1. Download an app from iTunes.
  2. Connect iPhone.
  3. Wait for backup. Wait for sync.
  4. Disconnect iPhone.
  5. Use application for a while.
  6. Connect iPhone.
  7. Wait for backup.
  8. Wait for backup.
  9. Wait for backup.
  10. Wait for backup.
  11. Wait for backup.
  12. Wait for backup.
  13. Wait for backup.

It doesn’t seem to be one application, either. At some point I’m going to add an application that completely destroys the backup process. In order to determine which one it is, I have to uncheck applications in iTunes like they’re extensions. This wouldn’t be so bad if not for one problem…

iTunes deletes the application’s data when I do this.

So, even for apps that aren’t hosed, I have to hose them in order to find the app that’s hosed and remove it.

iPhone Enabled

Well, I finally received the iPhone from AT&T. It’s nice … mostly. It doesn’t appear to like me, however.

I downloaded some apps before syncing and that’s caused a host of problems. Need to reset it and start over, methinks.

AT&T Small Business Has the Potential to Suck

We write Mac applications at work. We have several ideas for great iPhone apps (not the cheesy $5 ones, but real applications) that we’re working on. We can test on the simulator, yes, and that works most of the time, but it’s not perfect1 and we do need to test on the device now and again so we decided to get a pair of iPhone 3Gs to start off with and see how the development process was.

First, we approached the local Apple Store’s business contact. He said that they don’t handle business orders for the iPhone at all and gave us a name at AT&T that handles small business orders and said that he’d get us set up. That person would be Christopher Spain. Remember that name, he’s going to be coming up a lot here soon.

So I went back to coding and let my business partner handle all the fun of getting this setup. He called Chris and left a voicemail message that first day. The next day we got some information back about how to get setup.

Shit, I *am* a Rebel

The wife and I were coming back from a movie two nights ago, the same day I bought my new-to-me camera, and on the overly-hilly road that gets us into the neighborhood we saw a Harvest Moon on the horizon. Well, what else am I going to do with a new camera, eh?

So I got the tripod out when we got home and went out front only to be saddened that no place on the street would let me see the moon because of the houses and the trees. No matter, I thought, we’re on one of those hills and surely I can go to the downslope of the hill and catch it. So I got into my car and drove (because I’m lazy) to the end of the street and then down the main street a bit until I came to the downslope.

I parked on a side street and went to the corner, camera on the tripod already, and started to setup when I noticed a patrol car whiz by on the opposite side of the street. My very first response in my head was “Oh crap, he’s going to bug the crap out of me, isn’t he?” He kept going for a bit and then turned around and whizzed by me again, this time heading to my right. Then his lights (all of his lights) turned off and he parked on the side of the street, maybe 50 ft.

I'm a Rebel, Apparently

As of today, I’m the proud owner of a Canon Rebel XT. Yep, I’m just a few years behind the curve, but it’s a good camera and it’s right in my price range (well, still a little above it).

The story of why I have it is quite sad, however.

I love my Fuji F30. That camera has, single-handedly, kept me from buying a DSLR for two years now. It may not have the zoom power that I really want, but absolutely everything else about it is what I needed. In fact, I just recently cycled the odometer on it, so to speak, and blew past 10,000 photos. It went back to one. I was so sad…

Anyway, it’s a great camera, but it has a veritable Achilles’ Heel: the lens barrel is not sealed properly and dust gets inside. Large amounts of dust.

Ungh ... Server

After working with Mac OS X Server for a few days trying to setup an Xserve for the business I’m starting to recall all the reasons I told myself I’d never use Mac OS X Server again after leaving Apple.
